Hurricane Katrina

Like - I am sure - all of you, I have watched the images on my TV coming out of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama with horror. As we did last year with the South Asian tsunami, we would like to give Bethany's members a way to help - and give yourself a bit of a bonus as well.

First, we are offering the same program we offered last winter - namely, donate through us and 100% of your donation will be split between our two charities of choice, the first being The American Red Cross and the second being the Emergency Rescue fund of the Humane Society, PLUS you will get a credit for 50% of your donation for any stories or memberships that we offer on any of our sites. You may contact me at herwdshed@aol.com and I will tell you how to donate via credit card, or you may send a PayPal donation to the same address (make sure you put "Katrina relief" in the subject of your PayPal donation). We will not even deduct the processing fees that we must pay to accept credit cards or PayPal. So if you donate $100 to us, $50.00 will be sent to the Red Cross, $50 to the Humane Society, and you will have a $50.00 credit for our products.

Second, I'd like to draw your attention to another program, put together by Deborah Wiles. She's been an online - publishing associate of mine for many years. Her program is aimed not at the thousands of faces we are seeing on TV right now (who definitely need help, no mistake about that) but the literally hundreds of thousands of families who DID have the resources to evacuate, stay in a hotel, and now --- nothing. No where to go, no home to go back to, credit card debts starting to mount. In many ways, these middle class families are just as hard hit as the lower income families the bulk of the TV coverage has focused on so far - and in many other ways, they may be worse off, as they may be weeks or MONTHS away from any federal aid or an insurance check. So, what girl wouldn’t get a little cranky with all that, right? Who wouldn’t understand a few tantrums, a little whining, a little foot-stamping? After all, brats are human, too.
